I know y'all are upset about Bernie not making the nomination. I know y'all are upset about how utterly corrupt the DNC is. I know y'all are upset by the Democratic candidate that is Hillary Clinton and many of her questionable stances. I am too, believe you me.
But I am here to tell you: Do. Not. Vote. Third. Party. We do not operate within a Three-Party System. Boy oh boy do I wish we did, the current state of our electoral system is an utter disaster. But today, in the year 2016, a corrupt Two-Party System is all we’ve got. The odds of super-delegates changing their minds are slim-to-none and the odds of the primaries being redone due to the blatant bullshittery that hindered Sanders are slim-to-none.
Right now, we are faced with two options: Donald Trump, or Hillary Clinton. One leaves a very unsavory taste in my mouth, and the other makes me want to grab all of my loved ones and flee this country for the next four years to come. I’ll let you guess which is which.
Think I’m full of nonsense here? Take a little look at the 2000 presidential election. We had Bush and we had Gore. Lot’s o’ folks decided “fuck the system” and either did not cast a vote or cast one for a third party candidate by the name of Ralph Nader. And then George W. Bush was our president until 2009 and that went just swimmingly, didn’t it?
Sanders endorsed Clinton for a reason. It wasn’t necessarily because he thinks she’s a stellar candidate, and it certainly wasn’t because he agrees whole-heartedly with all of her policies. It was because he knew that endorsing Clinton and encouraging his supporters to do the same is the ONLY way to ensure that Donald Trump does not lead this nation for the next four years.
Writing his name into the bill isn’t radical, it’s putting the lives of millions of people of color at dire risk in this country. Voting Third-Party isn’t going to change the world, it’s going to make already institutionalized Islamaphobia a main pillar of our country’s government. Staying at home because you’re just so dang upset by how messed up everything is isn’t going to make it any better, it’s going to provide an opportunity for a sexist, racist, misogynistic, xenophobic, rapist piece of literal human scum to become our president.
Please, please do not let this happen.
